With Calyse, you can have your old saddle transformed into one of these signature handbags for the most special keepsake - and the perfect way to use your saddle again on the daily, just in a whole different way!
Please read through the process of having a Repurposed Saddle Bag made from your personal saddle:
HOW TO START: Start your order by placing the $50 deposit linked here. After placing the deposit you will receive a follow up email from me.
STYLES: Browse style options by visiting the Repurposed Saddle Bag page, click here. Please note, the ability to craft certain styles may depend on your saddle. I can typically make 2 bags from one saddle plus a wallet or two. I am happy to assist with choosing a style if you are unsure, based on what will work best with your saddle and personal preferences when I have it at my shop. Each repurposed saddle bag will have its own unique character based on it’s coloring, how it has worn and any patch-working.
TURNAROUND TIME: You can expect your project to be completed 7-8 months from when I receive your saddle. I will reach out via email around 6 months from when your saddle arrived to go over all options and details with you prior to staring on your order.
PACKING & SHIPPING: The most efficient way to ship your saddle is by using the smallest box as possible. You can fit your saddle inside snug by “hugging” the flaps inward on themselves. Pack in any additional tack you are sending. Include a note with your contact info / order # and preferred style choices. Cleaning & conditioning your tack is not required, but appreciated if you happen to do so! Seal up your box well with shipping tape and bring to your preferred shipping provider. I recommend using UPS or USPS. Please keep your tracking info handy for your reference on delivery and notify me when you’ve shipped out your package. Local? We can arrange for drop off at my studio! After deposit is placed, you will receive a follow up email from me to go over details and info on where to ship.
** If you are shipping internationally, you will be responsible for any customs fees upon arrival**
PERSONALIZATION: Make your bag even more personal by incorporating pieces like bridle parts, halters and reins. Name plates and saddle brand plates can be added as well if you wish.
PRICING: Some folks have asked if the prices below are the same if you are sending in your saddle. The answer - yes they are, and here's why! All of my pricing for repurposed saddle bags (supplied or not) are made up of only my labor and shop supplies. You are not paying anything towards any leather cost. You also receive the benefit of adding personalization such as name plates free of charge! Customizations such as altering aspects of a design, use of nail heads, extra embellishments, etc may be subject to additional charges. This is an incredibly personal service in terms of having a handbag made and I am here to dedicate extended amounts of time to ensure you receive the very best product and service. *Prices may be subject to change*
REMNANTS: In the event that there are any leather remnants, you have a few choices:
- Have them made into an additional piece for yourself.
- Allow me to further recycle them into future bags.
- Have them returned to you.
- Ask me to hold them for you until you are ready to have another piece made at a later date.
*Since it's the most common choice, option 2 is the default if not specified for leather. Thank you for keeping materials in circulation! Unless you wish to have it returned to you, I will donate your saddle’s tree to saddle fitters for research and educational purposes.
PRIOR TO DECONSTRUCTION: I will reach out to you about a month prior to your project coming up on my list. This will be to confirm all style options, details and any changes.
FINISHED PROJECT: When your bag is complete I will reach out to notify you and make you aware of any possibility of a second if you are interested.
FINAL PAYMENT: After your entire project is complete, you will receive an email with a link to checkout through my website. Please note, return shipping is not included in the bag prices and will be added to your final balance. I fully insure all personal saddle bags and require a signature upon delivery for security of the precious goods!
HEADED BACK HOME: After your order is packaged and ready for shipment, you will receive an email with shipping confirmation and tracking details when your order has shipped. Please let me know if you do not receive this email.
